How I work - The process
When browsing the internet there is one mail point that strikes me the most when visiting sites for small to medium sized companies. It seems the internet boom has made a lot of people think to get on the internet quick without really giving any
consideration to what content needs to be on their websites. Here is my process:
Step 1:
Consider the audience - It is important to think like a visitor in order to create the optimum site. What are they going to want to see? If you're selling a Nursing home for example, the visitors are going to want to see at least three things - Pictures of the home inside and out, details on what care is on offer, and what they get for their money.
Step 2:
Simmer down - The average view time of a medium sized business website is roughly 2 minutes. In that time you need to make sure that all the content that needs to be seen in there, and that any content that is unnecessary is removed. It's all about streamlining. Remember, viewers get bored easily.
It's also worth noting that studies show that the majority of viewers now would rather see video content explaining products than to read a page of text - new media is upon us, let's utilize it.
Step 3:
Learn from analytics. For every site I create, I install Google Analytics which enables you to track how many visits your site is getting, when it's getting them, where in the world they are, and how long they spend on each page of your site.
From this info we can learn a lot about what information is working and what isn't.
A website should be constantly evolving to adapt to the audience - again, streamlining turns visitors into customers.
